July 05, Hilton
July 9th brought us another Regatta of Plane/Shlog. The Hilton just hasn’t been going off this year. Even the little wind we are getting seems to be more from the South than last year, so making the entrance to Stinky’s without tacking can be tough.
Devon didn’t seem to be to bothered by the conditions. He took the bullets, despite tacking the Isle, and always seemed to get that magic gust when challenged. If you’re good enough you make your own magic. Devon’s a Magician.
We managed four races.
*In the first Race Devon won unchallenged. The real race was for second. Joe, Dave O, Dave D, and Peter stayed bunched up around the island and only began to separate on the straight past the Hilton. Dave O began the final windward in second, but tacked into a hole, letting Joe, Peter, and Dave D slide by. Joe held on for second, followed by Peter and Dave D.
*In the second race, Peter kept a little more pressure on Devon, who eventually pulled away around the island and on to win. Dave O threatened to pass Peter throughout the race, but never quite managed to get in front, and Peter held on to second, with Dave O a solid third.
*Things tightened up in the third race with Peter holding off Devon around the island. Devon eeked in front before the last run to the finish and Peter followed closely for another second. Dave O was close behind in third.
*Gabor and Dave D got into the action for the fourth/last race. Both were leading Devon well beyond the island before Devon caught a gust to jump in front. With a hundred yards or so to the final mark, Gabor planed away, but wasn’t able to make enough ground upwind to take Devon, who once again placed first. Gabor followed a close second, just beating out Dave D.
For the Regatta, Devon finished first, Peter second, Gabor third.
Wearing GPS units were Devon, Peter, Gabor, Dave D, Dave O, and Joe. You can watch the races on your computer if you have Java installed. See the links on the HOME page.
