A fun day at The Hilton. This was also the day of the 1st SDWA Picnic of 2008, and plenty of Windsurfers were on hand to enjoy food, friends and a little racing action.
The wind was gusting 10-20mph from the South; very unusual for June on Mission Bay. We set a course of unwind-downwind for Formula using Enchanted Isle as our weather mark.
To get more people involved, after each Formula race we held a "Slalom fun race" using a beach start and "twice around figure 8".
With Joe, Peter, and Lasse away at the US Windsurfing Nationals, only Gabor, Greg, Tuan, Dave D, and Dave O participated in Formula. Gabor handily took the first two races with Greg trouncing all in the third race.
It was really interesting watching the racers tacking upwind past The Hilton area where they normally are blasting on a beam reach! Because of this, the races took far longer than usual, and only the 3 Formula races were held. With a shorter course we may have tripled participation in Formula, but still the Slalom Races were loaded and everyone had a good time.
