SAN DIEGO FORMULA WINDSURFING
Sat, June 26th
In order to avoid the Vacation crowds and unusual aquatic wildlife associated with the July 4th weekend…we held our July Event a week early. No surprise that SDWA just happened to hold their semi-annual Summer Picnic/Meeting at the same time and place.
Everything went quite smoothly with a fun time for all.
After a productive meeting and downing some grub (thanks Cathy), the Racers hit the water for 4 Formula Races and with 2 exhibition Slalom Races mixed in. The wind was a typical San Diego blow of between 5 and 12 mph; plane on - plane off.
For Formula we ran all races using the Island Loop course; a short windward followed by a reach around Enchanted Isle, then windward again and leeward to the finish.

The first Race ended with Dave Dombowski edging our Dave O’Connor at the finish for 1st. Michal Prussack finished all alone in 3rd, and Lasse Uronen charged back from a ¼ mile deficit to overtake Robert Van for 4th place.

Dave O beat out Lasse in the second race with Dave D close behind.

The Third Race was a blow out with Lasse and Dave D catching their very own magic gust and leaving the fleet far behind. Lasse ended up holding off Dave D for 1st. Far back, Dave O edged out Robert Van for 3rd place, passing Robert on the last Leeward leg.

The standings were tight going into the last race. A win by either of the Daves or Lasse would secure the top spot for the day. Once again Lasse and Dave D got a jump on the pack and dusted the competition. Lasse held of Dave D again for 1st. Robert took 3rd and Dave O 4th.

Overall a great showing. 11 Racers took part in Formula, and even more for the two Figure Eight Slalom Races. In those, both Lasse and Dave O took a first. Dave was just behind Lasse for most of the 1st Slalom and never took the fastest line around the marks, choosing instead to follow close behind. After, on the beach Dave explained that he was just hanging back waiting for Lasse to blow one of his jibes, then he would take a clean line for the win. Hey Dave, I guess you were thinking about last years Lasse. This years Lasse has been practicing!
Thanks to all who participated. See you on the starting line in August!
