Our September Regatta took place in minimum winds ranging from 8 to 13mph average.
Visiting us on vacation from Finland was Lasse’s friend Anders, the Finish Masters Champion. Anders borrowed a Mike’s Lab from Robert and an RS4 11.6 from Dave O and proceeded to clean up, winning all 5 races held.
The 1st Race Course was the typical “Isle Loop” (windward-Isle Loop-Leeward-windward-Leeward/Finish) and Anders lead the way followed closely by Joe Roth and Dave D. Erik Van was looking good for an impressive 4th but blew his last windward tack and was quickly passed by Dave O and Robert Van. While Robert snuck passed Dave O to finish 4th, Erik recovered in time to place 6th, just holding off Lasse.
Another Island Loop for the second race and Anders again powered off to take 1st. Lasse put his disappointing 7th from the 1st race behind him with a solid 2nd. Always up in front, Dave D took another 3rd while Dave O powered past Robert at the finish to take 4th. Joe Roth seemed to find every hole in the wind on his way to finish 6th.
With the wind settling around 10mph or less, the 3rd and 4th races were shortened to simple twice-around Triangle courses in front of the Hilton. In the 3rd, Anders was able to hold a plane on each leg and easily took another bullet while Dave D held off Lasse for 2nd followed by Joe in 4th and Dave O 5th.
4th race…Anders again. Dave D edged Dave O for 2nd with Lasse taking 4th.
The 5th race was another Island Loop and finally Anders was challenged. Lasse was leading around Enchanted Isle with Dave O close behind when Lasse lost control and pitched. Dave O sped by with Anders behind. By the time Dave O turned for the final upwind he had pulled out a 200yard lead on Anders. Still, it was not Dave’s day as he failed to cover and ended up tacking in a hole. Meanwhile, Anders found good wind on the other side of the course and rounded the windward mark well ahead and cruised to the finish with his 5th win. Dave O finished a dejected 2nd with Dave D 3rd and Lasse recovering for 4th.
For the Regatta, Anders finished 1st with Dave D 2nd. The last race placing of 2nd cost Dave O third overall to Lasse. Joe finished 5th and Robert 6th.
